Globally, more than 400 million individuals have been diagnosed with the chronic health condition known as diabetes. In America alone, close to 1 out of every 5 people with the condition don’t even know that they have it. And when left untreated, diabetes can lead to life-altering complications such as blindness, kidney failure, nerve damage, and amputation. In serious instances, diabetes is fatal.
With so many people afflicted by the diabetes epidemic, quality educational resources for patients, innovations in diabetes healthcare, and initiatives to help prevent diabetes are needed now more than ever. OneGuild is a non-profit organization that aims to unite leading diabetes research foundations, as well as industry leaders and companies in order to facilitate improved care for patients and advance diabetes research.
OneGuild was established to honor Dr. Peter Sheehan, and continue his mission of revolutionizing diabetes care. For nearly thirty years, Dr. Sheehan was actively involved with the American Diabetes Association on both the local and national levels. In addition, he was active with the American Heart Association, the Wound Healing Society, and the Wound Healing Foundation.
Furthermore, Dr. Sheehan designed a system for diabetes management, now referred to as ‘The Sheehan Model’, which has been adapted by OneGuild for the digital healthcare era. Internationally revered in the field of diabetics, Dr. Sheehan has had a lasting, positive impact on the study and care for diabetes that OneGuild now strives to emulate and carry on. Through our global care initiatives like CareLabs and CareBridge, the annual Wound HSI Conference, and more.
CareLabs is a health initiative that uses a data-driven approach to deliver innovative tools and solutions to communities and people with diabetes. Specifically, CareLabs employs artificial intelligence and machine learning to diagnose and monitor clinical indications for diabetes and related conditions, help inform healthcare providers to achieve more personalized patient care, as well as empower patients to reach a better understanding of their health and the healthcare system.
CareLabs accomplishes all of this by leveraging OneGuild’s CareBridge health clinic.
Diagnosing diabetes and determining the right preventative care can be challenging for both patients and healthcare providers. Specialist visits are needed, and in communities that face provider shortages or healthcare infrastructure, a patient is at a higher risk of experiencing a devastating outcome due to their diabetic condition. CareBridge is a digital health clinic that helps primary care providers understand the root cause of a patient’s diabetes.
In addition, CareBridge provides a one-stop visit to cut back on the need for specialist appointments so patients save costs on healthcare, and communities can address diabetes more effectively. What’s more, CareBridge allows for personalized patient support, provides educational resources on care management, and uses extensive research data to assess a patient’s associated risks.
The annual Wound Healing Science & Industry Conference brings together clinical, academic, and industry stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in diabetic care. Participants of the conference network, learn about innovative clinical approaches, and engage in meaningful discussions that, all together, is an event that facilitates industry-leading vascular and wound care education.
