ABOUT THE AWARD

The Peter Sheehan Young Innovator Award celebrates the work of early-career scientists advancing research in tissue regeneration, clinical diagnostics, therapeutics, and diabetic limb salvage. This award reflects Dr. Sheehan’s vision of revolutionizing care for patients with diabetes-related complications.


NEW FOR 2025

In 2025, we are proud to introduce a Special Recognition for Developing Countries and Underserved Regions. This addition acknowledges impactful research conducted in resource-limited settings.

COMPETITION DETAILS

  • Five finalists will present their research virtually in November 2025.
  • Presentations will consist of a 15-minute talk followed by a 5-minute Q&A session.
  • Finalists and Special Recognition recipients will be announced by September 30, 2025.
  • The winner and runners-up will be revealed in December 2025.



SELECTION PROCESS

  • Finalists: Five candidates selected based on innovation, impact, and potential for clinical translation.
  • Special Recognition: Up to three candidates selected for impactful work in resource-limited settings.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Early career investigators, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows or residents, and junior faculty, involved in:

  • Tissue Regeneration
  • Diabetic Limb Preservation
  • Clinical Diagnostics and Therapeutics.


EVALUATION CRITERIA

Submissions will be judged based on:

  • Innovation: The originality of the research and its potential impact on the field.
  • Scientific Merit: The quality and rigor of the research methodology.
  • Translational Potential: Likelihood of translating the research into clinical practice or addressing unmet needs.


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To apply, candidates must submit:

A one-page abstract detailing the research (500 words max).

A brief bio (200 words max), including:

  • Educational background.
  • Current position and affiliation.
  • A summary of research interests and accomplishments.
