Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
➢ Outline the challenges and solutions for treating acute and chronic wounds with risk of infection. Including a wide range of methods from simple irrigation techniques, to wound debridement, and use of advanced wound care modalities like negative pressure wound therapy based on the status of the wounds encountered.
➢ Examine the evidence that shows that there are aspects of biofilm colonization that are associated with poor to no healing.
➢ Examine the evidence that immune response plays a role in controlling wound infection risk
➢ Explore novel ways of regaining improved oxygen tension at the wound; including local oxygen delivery systems and arterial compression systems
➢ Discuss the need for advanced technology integration to wound care workflows and devices pertaining to improving patient outcomes.
